STANDARD DEDUCTION

For 2024, the standard deduction is ​expected to increase slightly to adjust for ​inflation. The approximate amounts are:

Single or Married Filing Separately:​ $14,600

Married Filing Jointly: $29,200

Head of Household: $21,200

contribution limits

401(k) Contributions: The employee contribution limit ​for 401(k) plans is expected to increase to $23,000 with a ​catch up contribution limit of $7,500 for those aged 50 ​and over.

IRA Contributions: Annual contribution limit for Individual ​Retirement Accounts (IRAs) may increase to $7,000, with ​a $1,000 catch-up contribution limit for individuals aged ​50 and over.

CHILD TAX CREDIT

The Child Tax Credit will revert to ​its pre-2021 structure unless ​extended or modified by new ​legislation. This means it will be ​$2,000 per qualifying child under ​age 17, with up to $1,500 of credit ​being refundable.

HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTS (HSAs)

QUALIFIED BUSINESS INCOME (QBI)

The contribution limits for HSAs are expected to increase ​slightly for 2024:

Self-only coverage: $4,150

Family coverage: $8,300

Additional catch-up contributions of $1,000 for individuals ​aged 55 and older remain unchanged.

The QBI deduction remains available, allowing eligible self-​employed individuals and small business owners to deduct up ​to 20% of their qualified business income. Income thresholds ​and phase out limits will be adjusted for inflation.
